From Mountaintop to River Bottom: Restoring New Mexico's Watersheds September 30 - October 2, 2008 Albuquerque, New Mexico Watercolor by Suzanne Otter The first ever New Mexico Watershed Forum provided an opportunity to: - Learn about other watershed projects and restoration techniques
- Increase Collaboration and communication about watershed restoration
- Network with watershed groups across New Mexico
- Share successes, challenges and innovation
This statewide forum gathered agencies, organizations, professionals, educators and citizens with an interest in watershed management, restoration and protection. Tools, network connections, and information for people doing watershed restoration on the ground filled the rooms and hallways. Check this site through November 2008 for proceedings and presentation information. ~~ download the Forum Directory of registered participants ~~ download a sampling of Forum photos The first New Mexico Watershed Forum was attended by over 300 participants during 3 exciting days at the Uptown Marriott and in the valleys and mountain forest and wetlands by the Jemez Mountains. Major discussions focused on creating a state-wide alliance of watershed groups, new research and collaborative approaches in the face of climate change and potentially shrinking funding sources, monitoring approaches for restoration project effectiveness, and service learning that engages youth with wildlife and park management objectives. Some of the feedback includes:
"Great speakers, great format, great setting, great food/service, and great field trip. My only problem was feeling overloaded with so much good info and so many great contacts." "Practical watershed restoration & water harvesting sessions" "Relaxed, fun, detailed" Thanks to the people from watershed groups, forestry organizaitons and state & federal agencies for making the event a success. Proceedings from the Watershed Forum proceedings will be posted here in the comings weeks. Check back soon!!!
